LUQIAN CHEN

Hi, my name is Lucie/Luqian Chen.

My Design Story
Influenced by my father, a stage designer, I pursued Industrial Design in college and later worked in an architecture studio. My understanding of design at that time was primarily artistic, focused on visual appeal. The shift occurred during my master's studies at NYU, where two entrepreneurship courses at Stern Business School reshaped my view on design—from creating things to creating value. This new perspective has become the new direction for my life in the design industry.

Innovative Projects
In the past 5 years, I've worked on diverse products, from consumer-facing apps to B2B SaaS. Despite their differences, they all share the commonality of being innovative 0-1 projects. This aligns perfectly with my passion for creating value through design. The early stage of product development, though challenging, brings a sense of fulfillment as I navigate product-market fit and strive to uncover and create value. These experiences have cultivated my comfort with ambiguity and resilience in the face of failures.

Global Experience
I've lived and worked in China, the United States, and the United Kingdom for the past 10 years, gaining a deep understanding of how cultures influence behavior. This experience allows me to understand myself better, select meaningful aspects from different cultures, and build my authentic self. As a product designer, it helps me keenly capture differences in user needs across various cultural backgrounds.
