The Challenge

After the launch of our MVP, Kyligence Zen, a metrics management platform, we observed that users were creating metrics but not actively utilizing them, as reflected in our KPI, weekly active metrics.

The Approach

Upon assignment to this project, the team had a direction proposed by our CEO. Rather than simply executing his direction, I initiated a rapid user interview project to ensure a better understanding of user needs. I intentionally selected individuals from various levels of the organization, including our CEO, department managers, and staff. The interview findings uncovered the needs of a larger user group, department managers and staff, ultimately assisting the team in developing a more effective solution.

The Outcome

Introducing the Goals feature, designed to facilitate metrics alignment within organizations. This feature provides individuals with a clear understanding of how the metrics they own contribute to the organization's overall goals. By offering visibility into the impact of their metrics, it motivates individuals to actively use them in their daily work. Additionally, the Goals feature serves as a powerful tool for organizations, enhancing the effectiveness of metrics review meetings by providing a clear overview of business performance and supporting issue diagnosis.

  • Two months after the launch of this new feature, our KPI, weekly active metrics, increased by 7%.
  • This new feature has become a unique selling point as we position our product to potential clients.
  • Our coworkers, who are actively using our product, are leveraging this feature in every review meeting, guiding their daily work effectively.



The Reflection

The initial direction proposed by our CEO is not incorrect; it's based on valuable management perspectives. My research approach ensures that the voices of everyone, including staff and front-line managers, are heard. This process led to a new direction with a broader impact. This experience taught me that giving the underrepresented a voice and considering their needs ultimately helps businesses come up with solutions that have a more significant impact.
